Oriental Darter

Anhinga melanogaster

This iconic water bird is often found in our project area. Oriental Darters swim with their body submerged. As only their slender neck alone is visible above the water, it is sometimes called “snakebird”. It has wettable feathers and it is often found perched on a rock or branch with its wings held open to dry:
